malam 4 Syawal: malam penuh kenangan

akhirnya kami tak jumpa pun kunci almari tu. kami jumpa sesuatu yang lebih berharga: kenangan nenek bersama atuk. dan baru kami tahu sedalam mana cinta nenek pada atuk. kalah romeo and juliet!

RAYA '10

Happy Raya everybody! Yeah, I'm actually still in the mood for Raya celebrations. I've said it lots of time: this year's Raya is especially fun. Maybe it's because my family flew home from Brunei. Maybe it's because it has been a long time since I last went back to Tanjung Malim, Perak. Maybe it's because the whole Tok Rahman family had not gathered for a while. Or maybe it's all of the reasons mentioned.

My family (Papa, Mama, Aa, Aiman and Adib) arrived from Brunei a few days before Raya and we went to Tanjung Malim on Raya eve. Not everybody was there this year but it was merry enough. Pictures were taken, actions were recorded, moments were captured. It was indeed a lot of fun especially with the little nieces and nephews running around looking cute!

So again, HAPPY RAYA TO ALL!!

raya

As I promised, here's the post about my two weeks spent in Brunei. It has been delayed for quite some time since I can't really find the time to write. But I'm trying my best not to let my blog go all dusty.

So I went back to Brunei for this year's Eid and the whole crowd was waiting for me at the arrivals. Papa had to work though, but Mama was there. Aa, Aiman and Adib was there too - all of them now bigger than ever. Bibik was waiting for me at home and Wawa wasn't there because she still needed to answer exam papers back in Malaysia.

As I got home I was surprised to see that there were cats everywhere. Last time I checked there were only four of them. And now they were all over the place. All nine of them. There's Moo, Grille, Puma, Zebra, Fe, Tucson, Ireland, Fifi and Lexus.

This is Lexus. He's the laziest, friendliest, most pampered of all the cats in the house. Oh yes. Speaking of pets, our terrapins - Harry, Ron and Hermione - which used to be only the size of a fifty-cent coin are now humongous and need to be put in the garden outside. Their place is still under construction, I think.

Eid preparations were always the same. Nothing but the usuals: hanging the lights, changing the curtains and cushions, cleaning the house, changing light bulbs, and not forgetting lighting up the pelita every night. Most of it is done by our WonderBIBIK who is 'serbaguna dan tahan lama' but we had our fair share of chores too.

We also went to Uncle Shahdan's restaurant for buka puasa. Uncle Shahdan is a Johorean family friend and I have to mention here that his Laksa Johor is the best. If I were to choose, I'd rather come all the way to Brunei for his Laksa. Well, that and many other super-delicious food he cooks. Again, kudos to you Uncle Shahdan!

Raya was also the usuals. (Mind you, Bruneian 'usuals' is not like what we do here in Malaysia. Their 'usuals' include the whole 30 days of open house and a minimum of 8 pairs of raya attire). We had our open house on the 4th day of Eid and boy was it tiring. People were coming in and out the whole day and so were the whole-chickens as the guests keep on eating whatever they can find on the table. The sugar-cane rice which we learned to make from our neighbor was a big hit too. Thanks to Mufasa Mustafa's dad for that.

So that was pretty much all I did during the two weeks spent there. Raya was fun for the first time in three years because it seems that the best raya is the one spent with your whole family, no matter where that is. Speaking of, there's news that this may be the last raya with Bibik around. I hope that's not true. There's also news which involves me being a modern nomad again. Now that, I'm not sure about just yet. I'm just crossing my fingers and keeping on praying.

Happy Raya! =]

Maroon Memoir : Part 2

The wedding ceremony was held the day after at StarCity Hotel, Alor Setar, Kedah. The bride works there. I woke up that morning with an eye-popping news that I am to be her bridesmaid that day. Being groggy from lack of sleep due to finishing the bunga telur the night before, I really didn't want to do it. But then I came to my senses. After all, I am the stand-in for the actual bridesmaid. So I got up and ready for my third time being a bridesmaid.

It was one of the most fun wedding I've been to. The wedding was as simple and sempoi but nice as can be. We actually talked and laughed on the stage. It was so much fun that I didn't realize the ceremony was about to end.

People who matters came and beautiful pictures were taken. Here's some to share with everyone.

Maroon Memoir : Part 1

My cousin Caca just got married on the 30th of May 2009. The akad nikah was at Masjid Al-Ghufran, Alor Setar, Kedah. These are some of the pictures from the day of the akad nikah.

wonderment personified

Mere words could not describe the intensity of my love for her, the greatness of my admiration for her strength and my idolization of her kind heart.

But if there is one thing that I could not do, it is to look into my mother's eyes. Whenever I look into those tired eyes I can see the pain, exhaustion and patience of a martyr that is well covered by her cheerful and happy personality. Indeed, she hides it well. I never did have the courage to see all the hardship she's been through to keep the family together and raise five mischievous children. And realize that she isn't getting any younger. She's not getting any stronger or healthier, too. Her age has taken it's toll on her. You can see it all in those eyes. So, I tend to look elsewhere whenever I'm talking to my mother. Anywhere but those tired eyes. I just couldn't bear it.

My mother is by far the most wonderful person I have ever known. The most wonderful person anyone can ever have as a mother (but of course, everybody will say the same thing about their mother). She will always be that most wonderful person to me. And I'm not sure that I can ever be even close to half the person she is now. For my sisters, my brothers and I, her actions has always been a reminder to be kind and courteous. To forgive and forget. And she has been the best example we can refer to.

Looking back, I know I have done so many wrongs to her. I owe her my time, attention and so much more. I don't know if I will ever have the guts to say to her what I'm writing here but I know that sooner or later she will read this as she is my devoted reader.

Ma, for all this 19 years of living I am sorry for the times I did not spend with you, the words that have broken your heart, the things I did not do and the things I did do that made you want to pinch my ear.

How I really, really miss resting my head on her lap, her soothing hugs and how happy and secure she made me feel by just being there. Not forgetting her perfect spaghetti, lasagna, muffins, chicken pie and mayo macaroni that will make you drool.

Really looking forward to seeing her end of this month. Can't wait!

Love you Ma,
eQa

reminiscing the best holiday EVER!

I was just reading my mom's blog for like the 16th time. I just love the pictures that she posted along with the retelling of our latest holiday trip to Sabah last semester break. Those were some of the few pictures that survived when my dad accidentally formatted his laptop. And I'm sure glad they survived because the pictures were great hilarious!

This is one of the fun pictures that were

papa's safely back!

Mak Uda, Maya and I went to KLIA this morning to see Papa while he was on transit. He arrived with his colleague from Pakistan at about 8.20 am and were supposed to board the Royal Brunei Airlines flight to Brunei Darussalam before 2.30 pm. We hung around the departure floor and talked until it was time to board the plane. While they were checking in, the three of us were starting our trip to Port Dickson. Thankful that Papa is back safely. =]

best of luck!

Good luck to my dearest cousin IKA on your SPM examination. I know you can fly colours.
So, go ahead and make us proud!

Papa, please be safe..

As I'm preparing for my final exams which starts on the 3rd of November, my father is busy preparing for his flight to Pakistan on the same day. He will be flying there as a journalist on duty. It's good to know that he is doing something that he loves. What worries me is his safety over there.

Just yesterday, I heard over the news that southwest Pakistan was shaken by a 6.4 magnitude quake. Before that, a 7.6 magnitude earthquake struck Muzaffarabad in Pakistan. This is really starting to make me worried. To add to the already intense worry, there is a possibility that he is also going to Afghanistan. Now this is going to make me worried sick. Afghanistan is not a safe country to be in right now. Also from the news yesterday, I found out there was a suicide bombing which happened somewhere in the country and this is not the only one. Several bombings had happened in Afghanistan.

To Papa, while you are there, always remember that 2753 miles from you, your beloved daughter will always love you, hoping you are in great condition, praying for your health and safety. So please take care and be safe...

please be safe....

This afternoon while eating, I got a call from my mother. She was at Anjang's house in Subang Jaya where they held the doa selamat ceremony before Mama and Nenek's departure. They are going for their umrah. Hearing her voice really made me miss her ten times more.

Suddenly there it was again..the same memory that has been playing in my mind like a video over and over these few days. A clear visual of my mom chasing the express bus which I missed b
y three minutes. I was supposed to be on that bus to get back to Pahang. Wearing a baju kurung, she was running with all her might despite her recent ailment after the bus - carrying my laptop bag along with her. At that moment I thought I had already missed the bus. There's no way the bus is going to stop. I went after her and tried to tell her that the bus was not going to stop but she didn't hear me and kept running. To my amazement, the bus did stop and I was able to get on it. I was still stunned by what had happened when I kissed my mother, thanked her and got on the bus. I couldn't believe that my mother chased and stopped the bus.

On the phone, she told me that she was driven by her instinct and asked me if I'm embarrassed by it. How can a child be embarrassed when a mother is putting herself aside for her child's sake? On the contrary, I'm overwhelmingly touched by it and couldn't thank her enough. It really showed me that a mother will do literally anything and sacrifice practically everything for their children. I'm blessed to have a mother like Mama and a father like Papa. They are my everything. So Ma and Nenek, please be safe while you are away...

thanks MAMA and KAK ITA!

thanks for all your advices and comments. they were very much appreciated. i know you guys will always support me and have my back. and don't worry, there may be sharks and alligators but this lioness won't fall for them. (^_^)
