Di Udara - Efek Rumah Kaca

Efek Rumah Kaca is an Indonesian indie band. First time dengar lagu mereka di blog KakDek. Then Jumaat lepas tengok mereka perform live di Annexe Gallery, Central Market. Memang best tak hengat la. Music simple tapi sedap je dengar. And the words, beautiful. Lagu 'Di Udara' kat bawah ni paling aku suka. KakDek kata lagu ni 'macam *ginih* (thumbs up)'. Memang pun. Lepas dengar ERK perform live lagu ni aku terus beli album dia. Lagu ni dalam album pertama ERK.

curtain call

The night before that was all about Teruk and Tambat Kaki. Teruk, directed by Fakhrul Shahidan (aka Bob), was received well by the audience. I've watched the rehearsal many times before but my heart was racing as I watched it being played for the audience that night. There was a loud and satisfying applause from the audience at the end of the play. Then it was Tambat Kaki's turn. If my heart was racing when I watched Teruk, it felt like my heart was going to burst out of my chest as Amir stepped onstage to recite a poem by Zahiril Adzim. Few seconds later, it hit me: the play which I directed was starting. I was freaking nervous.

Being a director for the first time was not easy - especially when you're the only first-year director while the other three were third-year students who have the experience of being in a real production before. The pressure is there. Luckily, I have my mentor Kak Yana to help me with all the basic knowledge of theater. And Bob, my co-pilot, also helped a lot. Then there was a whole bunch of other seniors who shared their opinion and comments. They really helped out. Thanks so much guys! Dealing with the crew and actors needs a lot of patience and people skills. I learned how to deal with people and pressure at the same time. But thankfully, my crew and actors were well-disciplined and able to accept criticism. They helped and sacrificed a lot to make this theatre a success. Kudos to you guys!

Alhamdulillah... the show went well. There was a minor technical misunderstanding, confusion and flusteration going on backstage but that's theatre. Thanks again to Bob as the stage manager of the night for handling it well. The audience's response was a satisfactory. The theatre got mixed reviews but most of them were positive. Personally, I still think there are lots more to improve. We need to improve if we're going to win the MAKUM trophy. Yes dear seniors, we'll hold on to that dream with all our might. That trophy will be in UMP someday, right Kerabat Muda Senandika? Speaking of awards, Tambat Kaki won three of Anugerah Senandika:

so the lion fell in love with the lamb...
I finally finished reading the Twilight Series' latest book - Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer. I'm officially a huge fan of her works and her self now. With the limited time I have - only being able to read for a couple of hours per day - I managed to finish the 754 pages (the thickest of the bunch) of Stephenie's compelling world of supernaturals in a week and a half.The first book, Twilight, is now a major motion picture. The second, New Moon, will also be a movie in a few months' time and the third book of the series, Eclipse, is sure to come next. All four books were different and interesting in their own way. I find the fourth installment of the saga the most fascinating and heartfelt yet. I was laughing aloud and crying in silence (to keep my roommates from noticing) while reading it. If you hadn't known I was reading, you'd think I'm crazy. It was a three-books-combined-into-one (which explains the ginormous fatness of the book). Book One and Three were written from Bella's perspective while Book Two was from Jacob's.
Unlike most love stories, the novels were not all the way romance. There was an enjoyable amount of action, fast cars and super powers involved; it was a partly supernatural fiction after all. Stephenie made the story of a human girl who fell in love with a vampire and has a werewolf as her best friend as interesting as Lord of the Rings. The supernatural world - which started portraying itself in Stephenie's mind as a vivid dream she had one night - is not the typical “let’s kill the vampire with a pitchfork” idea. The vampires don't have fangs and they don't sleep in coffins. It was more like Heroes + Interview With The Vampire (minus the coffins) rather than Bram Stoker's Dracula. I think it's fair to say that Edward & Bella is now in the same line as Romeo & Juliet, and Jack & Rose.
I can't wait to read her next novel - a science fiction for people who don't like science fiction, The Host. Also, the other dimension of the Twilight story, told from Edward's perspective, Midnight Sun which was temporarily postponed due to illegal leak on the internet of the incomplete draft. Just hope she gets her mood back and finish the book real soon.
