RAYA '10

Happy Raya everybody! Yeah, I'm actually still in the mood for Raya celebrations. I've said it lots of time: this year's Raya is especially fun. Maybe it's because my family flew home from Brunei. Maybe it's because it has been a long time since I last went back to Tanjung Malim, Perak. Maybe it's because the whole Tok Rahman family had not gathered for a while. Or maybe it's all of the reasons mentioned.

My family (Papa, Mama, Aa, Aiman and Adib) arrived from Brunei a few days before Raya and we went to Tanjung Malim on Raya eve. Not everybody was there this year but it was merry enough. Pictures were taken, actions were recorded, moments were captured. It was indeed a lot of fun especially with the little nieces and nephews running around looking cute!

So again, HAPPY RAYA TO ALL!!

mind.body.soul

(I dedicate this post to each and everyone who knows me. Each and everyone.)

2010. Sempat juga aku sampai ke tahun ini. Alhamdulillah.

I'm guessing this happens a lot to other writers as well. So, enough said about my not writing here anymore because I knew that eventually I will write again. Eventually. That is what I've been telling my one particular friend who is also one of the reason I am writing again. Yes, my mood to write ran away for a while when vacations didn't seem to work but it finally found its way home.

Only minutes ago it was 2009. How time flies. The year of the Ox left behind all kinds of memoirs. The bitter, the sweet, and everything in between. The only difference between this year and last year's new year celebration is my perspective on it. 2009 was celebrated with excitement, plans and expectations for the upcoming year. 2010, on the other hand, starts off with a review of what had happened along the past year. Bermuhasabah diri seketika. Tak salah kan sekali-sekala memandang ke belakang? Kira subjeknya masih sama. 2009. Tapi dilihat dari perspektif berbeza.

If life is a journey then I consider 2009 as the road that I have traveled on. A journey through LIFE is like a wildcard where you don't know your destination until you reach it. And no GPSs are given so it's mostly intuitive or a gamble. You choose your own route and that will determine your destination. In this case, my mind, body and soul revolved along the way.

So if 2009 is a road, I'd say the journey started off smoothly. I was enjoying the ride. Of course, there were bumps and holes here and there but it was nothing I couldn't handle. However, as I was reaching the end of the road I came across a very confusing roundabout. I got lost while making my turns and didn't know which route I should take. But eventually, I found the way and got to the end of the road.

Everything happens for a reason. Ada hikmahnya. Allah tak akan memberi ujian selain yang mampu dihadapi oleh hambanya. Mistakes happened so we can learn from it. And I've learnt so much through what had happened. I've learnt that the bitter teaches you much more than the sweet. Dan aku bersyukur atas ujian yang telah Engkau berikan. Because it made me stronger. And it also opened my eyes to things I never knew before. Kan dah kata everything happens for a reason. *wink*

So, I would like to say thank you to each and everyone who knows me. The ones who loathes me and the ones who likes me. Those who helped me and those who made my life a living hell. The supportive ones and the skeptical ones. From the bottom of my heart,

THANK YOU!

Because like it or not, you guys made me stronger. Happy New Year guys!

raya

As I promised, here's the post about my two weeks spent in Brunei. It has been delayed for quite some time since I can't really find the time to write. But I'm trying my best not to let my blog go all dusty.

So I went back to Brunei for this year's Eid and the whole crowd was waiting for me at the arrivals. Papa had to work though, but Mama was there. Aa, Aiman and Adib was there too - all of them now bigger than ever. Bibik was waiting for me at home and Wawa wasn't there because she still needed to answer exam papers back in Malaysia.

As I got home I was surprised to see that there were cats everywhere. Last time I checked there were only four of them. And now they were all over the place. All nine of them. There's Moo, Grille, Puma, Zebra, Fe, Tucson, Ireland, Fifi and Lexus.

This is Lexus. He's the laziest, friendliest, most pampered of all the cats in the house. Oh yes. Speaking of pets, our terrapins - Harry, Ron and Hermione - which used to be only the size of a fifty-cent coin are now humongous and need to be put in the garden outside. Their place is still under construction, I think.

Eid preparations were always the same. Nothing but the usuals: hanging the lights, changing the curtains and cushions, cleaning the house, changing light bulbs, and not forgetting lighting up the pelita every night. Most of it is done by our WonderBIBIK who is 'serbaguna dan tahan lama' but we had our fair share of chores too.

We also went to Uncle Shahdan's restaurant for buka puasa. Uncle Shahdan is a Johorean family friend and I have to mention here that his Laksa Johor is the best. If I were to choose, I'd rather come all the way to Brunei for his Laksa. Well, that and many other super-delicious food he cooks. Again, kudos to you Uncle Shahdan!

Raya was also the usuals. (Mind you, Bruneian 'usuals' is not like what we do here in Malaysia. Their 'usuals' include the whole 30 days of open house and a minimum of 8 pairs of raya attire). We had our open house on the 4th day of Eid and boy was it tiring. People were coming in and out the whole day and so were the whole-chickens as the guests keep on eating whatever they can find on the table. The sugar-cane rice which we learned to make from our neighbor was a big hit too. Thanks to Mufasa Mustafa's dad for that.

So that was pretty much all I did during the two weeks spent there. Raya was fun for the first time in three years because it seems that the best raya is the one spent with your whole family, no matter where that is. Speaking of, there's news that this may be the last raya with Bibik around. I hope that's not true. There's also news which involves me being a modern nomad again. Now that, I'm not sure about just yet. I'm just crossing my fingers and keeping on praying.

Happy Raya! =]

  • I'll be off to Brunei in a few hours and will be staying there for a couple of weeks.
  • So excited to celebrate Raya with my family for the first time in three years. Yeay!
  • There may not be any updates for the next two weeks but expect a pretty long one after.
  • Last words:
SELAMAT HARI RAYA
MAAF ZAHIR DAN BATIN

mask on, everybody!

Last night all my classmates of K27 wore masks during our whole lab session due to prevention of the infamous H1N1 virus.
It made my spectacles go all foggy.
But as they say, curing is never better that preventing.
So mask on, people!
(I think I'm going to ask my mom to send some with the cute designs from Brunei)

Good luck to my dearest cousin IKA on your SPM examination. I know you can fly colours.
So, go ahead and make us proud!

Papa, please be safe..

As I'm preparing for my final exams which starts on the 3rd of November, my father is busy preparing for his flight to Pakistan on the same day. He will be flying there as a journalist on duty. It's good to know that he is doing something that he loves. What worries me is his safety over there.

Just yesterday, I heard over the news that southwest Pakistan was shaken by a 6.4 magnitude quake. Before that, a 7.6 magnitude earthquake struck Muzaffarabad in Pakistan. This is really starting to make me worried. To add to the already intense worry, there is a possibility that he is also going to Afghanistan. Now this is going to make me worried sick. Afghanistan is not a safe country to be in right now. Also from the news yesterday, I found out there was a suicide bombing which happened somewhere in the country and this is not the only one. Several bombings had happened in Afghanistan.

To Papa, while you are there, always remember that 2753 miles from you, your beloved daughter will always love you, hoping you are in great condition, praying for your health and safety. So please take care and be safe...

Dear F2t6,

I seriously miss you guys and I can't wait to reunite once again with my fellow F2T6ians. I actually wanted to post the IMMORTALIZED FRIENDSHIP video that I made and showed to you guys at Mdm Cheng's class during the end of our last semester at KMK. However, due to its extra large size, the video cannot be uploaded. Ipso facto, I made something else for you.
